-
Check all UIF maternity documents, which you completed for any errors and gaps to avoid any delays with the maternity claim submission
-
Submit all forms to the Department of Labour
-
Answer all your questions as and when you need help
-
Submit UI4 / Continuation of payment forms on a monthly basis to the Department of Labour until completion of UIF maternity claim.
Below you will find a few of the most important questions & answers.
1. What are the maternity benefits paid by UIF?

Expectant mothers are entitled to UIF maternity benefits for the period of the maternity leave but not more than 4 months as prescribed by the Department of Labour.

2.Do I qualify to receive maternity benefits from the UIF?
In general everybody who is on maternity leave can claim UIF maternity benefits from the government's Unemployed Insurance Fund.

However there are a few criteria to consider to find out if you are eligible to claim for UIF maternity benefits:
-
You must be registered for UIF (your employer should do that)
-
You must have contributed to UIF every month
-
You must not receive 100% of your salary while on maternity leave
-
You can claim as a foreigner (if you have a valid work permit and passport - however we are unable to help you unless you have a SA ID)
If you have claimed UIF maternity benefits in the last four years, you may claim again now. Contact us so that we can discuss your specific situation.

If you are a member of a Close Corporation or a director of a company (Pty Ltd) you can claim Maternity UIF. If you are a sole proprietor then you should not contribute to UIF and can't claim either.
2.When do I need to fill in all the documents and send to UIF-Hero?
Once we have established that you qualify for UIF maternity benefits we will send you the relevant UIF maternity forms. We can only submit them to the Department of Labour once you have started your maternity leave.

3. When is the earliest a maternity benefit claim can be submitted?

A UIF pregnancy claim can only be submitted once you started your maternity leave. Nevertheless you prepare all UIF forms for maternity, so that by the time you are on maternity leave they can be submitted immediately.
Important: If you receive your full salary for a few months while on maternity leave and want to claim for additional unpaid months, the claim can only be submitted when you are on the unpaid portion of your maternity leave.
